The Do's & Don'ts of Breastfeeding
Lucky are
those women who have been able to develop a life inside them and also could let
that life see the light of this world! Your baby is the most precious gift to
you and the most valuable gift you can give it is the gift of health. The
ultimate nutritious food for your baby is your breast milk.
Breast
Milk is the powerhouse of essential nutrients for your baby and no other
substitute (formula milk available in the market) can ever match its nutritive
value. Breastfeeding do and don't will
be summarised in this article to help your baby reap the maximum possible
benefits of breast milk.
Stem Cells
in Breastmilk!
In 2007
most probably there was a discovery made that human breast milk contains a kind
of stem cell. Later it was discovered that as many as three different types of
stem cells have been found present in human breast milk, as per latest
revolutionary research made.
Dr Foteini
Kakulas of The University of Western Australia has made a demonstration regarding
how stem cells in breast milk can be
developed into different tissue types like bone, liver, fat, and brain cells.
The
findings are recent and still in their nascent stage. If the finding, however,
are confirmed then it can be confirmly said that stem cells from the mother
pass on to the baby making it the only most reliable & highly-nutritious
food for your child.
Do’s
● Breastfeed your baby immediately
after birth
● Upto 6 months of age, give only
breastmilk to your baby and nothing else (not even water if possible). After
that semi-solid food and breastmilk both need to be fed to your toddler upto 2
years.
● Change the diaper before
breastfeeding as the baby will feel more comfortable and can be fed better.
● Drink a glass of plain water to
improve your breast milk flow. Taking a warm bath before the session is also
recommended (not always taking a bath before breastfeeding is possible though)
● Make sure to maintain hygiene while
breastfeeding. You should wash your hands and wipe the breast area with a soft
damp cloth both before and after each session.
● Avoid intaking too much caffeine
Don'ts
● No artificially made and
commercially available formula milk, should be administered to the baby.
● Do not wait to feed the baby till it
cries. Maintain a definite time interval and periodically keep feeding the
child.
● Do not feed the baby when you are
feeling negative emotion like angry or sad. It affects the milk flow and your
baby can sense it.
● Do not consume very spicy food
during your lactating phase.
● Do not take medicines like
painkillers or antibiotics over the counter without consulting a doctor.
● Do not consume alcohol and quit
smoking
Breastfeeding stem cells may be present or may not be that
effective in its role in the breast milk, but the significance of the
breast milk in ensuring proper development of the child can never be ignored.
If, however, stem cells really pass from the mother to the baby through breast
milk then it can be more rewarding from health point for view.
